Bookexpo America Reveals Expanded New York Book Week Program For 2011

BEA officials have revealed a vast array of events which have been organized in support of New York Book Week (NYBW), a week long celebration which embraces all literary and book activity in New York and which takes place during the week of BEA beginning Monday, May 23 – Saturday, May 28. Notably, the Apple Store, SoHo, located at 103 Prince Street, will conduct a weeklong series of “Meet the Author” events specifically in conjunction with New York Book Week. Barnes & Noble will once again tie-in its regular series of events and autographings to New York Book Week and the New York Public Library, in conjunction with several publishers, has organized numerous events including a Science Fiction & Fantasy Evening at 42nd St. (Stephen Schwarzman Building); Writing for Teens Today in SoHo (Mulberry Street Library); and What Makes a Good Picture Book at 42nd St. (Stephen Schwarzman Building). Other participants in various NYBW events include: Borders at Columbus Circle, The Brooklyn Public Library, Bryant Park Reading Room, The Center for Fiction, Greenlight Bookstore, McNally Jackson Bookstore, powerHouse Arena, Symphony Space, and WORD Books.

“Launched last year, our New York Book Week initiative was greeted with instant support, and I am incredibly happy to see how quickly it has evolved and taken on a life of its own,” notes Steve Rosato, Show Manager for BookExpo America. “The Apple Store’s terrific week of author events and its commitment to New York Book Week is a clear example of how far we can go with this program. Bookstores, libraries, and other literary hotspots and emporiums throughout New York City have proved incredibly eager to capitalize on their shared interest in books and authors. At the same time, publishers have indicated that they are keen to have the additional opportunity to promote the hundreds of authors who are in attendance at BEA by making them available for public events. Now that BEA is committed to remaining in New York City it seems only natural to bring all of the energy, excitement and enthusiasm of New York’s literary community together for a week long celebration.”

Officials at BEA note that full details and listings for New York Book Week are listed prominently on the website at: www.bookexpoamerica.com. Click on the New York Book Week icon on the homepage. In addition, BEA will prepare a printed brochure for New York Book Week with listings and which includes a letter from Mayor Bloomberg welcoming BEA attendees to New York City. In his letter, Mayor Bloomberg perfectly captures the spirit and tone of New York Book Week by noting: “Publishing is one of New York’s signature industries, and we are proud to to be the home of the many authors, editors, educators, and tastemakers who make our City such a dynamic and exciting place in which to live, work, and discover new ideas.” The brochure will be handed out at all registration counters and a prominent sign with NYBW listings will be on display in the lobby of the Javits Center.
